BREEDING DRAUGHT HORSES

INCREASING IN THE WAIKATO. The breeding of draught horses is stated to be on the increase in the Waikato, the high prices which have ruled during the, past two years for both heavy and medium draughts, and in. fact for till horses suitable for farm work, having given farmers in the district mi incentive to. engage more largely in breeding than they have, done hitherto. According to the Waikato correspondent of a .northern exchange, the present prospects are indicative that .the coming season will be marked by a considerable stimulus in horse-breeding. " ' Referring to file supply of horses for farm work, the "Otago, Witness" remarks that the limited supply now ensures that any horse suitable for the shafts will command a high figure.. There are, says the paper in question, buyers in town for -horses who cannot-tjll their requirements. Twenty per cent, of the farmers' are purchasers instead of sellers, and in the lasttwo. months an enormous increase has taken place in the value of geldings suitable for farm work and the brilchen. There is every indication that the breeding of good sorts will bo highly profitable for some years..
