.With the coming, as it were, of n now element into the-picture business, the forward, strides of tho older firms must not be lost sight of. .The firm of Hayward'sEnterprises, Ltd., during tie. past twelve, months-have opened directly and indirectly over iO new picture enterprises in tho Dominion.- They have also, incorporated-with-the big Australia#'. Film . Combino which' has :given them the exclusive rights of screening tho productions of Pathe Freres associated..makers in : -2Jew< Zealand.' These makers include tlje •r1.K.." "Thanhouser," "Britannia,"."lrnpcrium," "Comica." "Hepwix," and others. The subjects being secured from all parts of the world. Itayward's have, just completed a big deal by securing the sole screening rights, for New- Zealand of tho .future releases of. the well-known Vitagraph Company of America. Among picture-lovers the "Vitas" are looked upon as being one of tho most.'popular makers thrown On tho screen. Besides having the sole rights of tho above maker?,; Hayward's, Ltd., have, .by their association with the Australian-.-Combine, the' exclusive screening rights of tho "Flying. A" and "Bison" films, also the English and Australian Gazettes. In Wellington these films are to be seen nightly at the Kins's Theatre, Shortt's. Theatre, and., the Star Theatre, I" Newtown. To .be able to r secure" • such 1 advantages entails enor.moiis - expenditure ■ liud' large importations, • • which- • demoristrates the huge degree to -which film en-' terprise- has developed in.this country-. Hnvward's, Ltd.. have 3S- theatres under, their own direction? for exhibiting' film,' and have taken'■ over large premises .ill Wellington for their film-hiring department and general office. With' these facts in view, - the 'pessimisiu -attached to - the remark: "Will "if last?" should vanish with the rapid and skilful development tlmt is apparent, on all sides, and the crowded aspect of 'the existing theatres and tho number of.-new picture theatres, 'in course of construction, would warrant even the most optimistic to remark: "Where will it end?"
