At a meeting of the Alnotcrtou County Co unci 1 ; to-clny <i I-qtloi- was road from the New Zealand Pence Council, asking fw co-operation in protest: against tlio compulsory clauses of the Defence Aet. Several cbuncillor.o spoke strongly in support of the defence movement, one stating that any young man refusing to serve should leave the country. It was unnnimously resolved 1o reject tlio proposals of the l'ence Society and to express heiirty approval oC the, 'Defence Act.
