(From' Our. Snecial Correspondent.) Masterton,. October 8. Mr. Ayson, of the Fisheries Department, has selected .'a site for the new hatcheries in Mastcrton. John Gaskin,'• labourer, of Martinborough, was yesterday adjudicated bankrupt. His assets are made up of £70 in furniture; Tho liabilities are set down at ,£173 7s. 4d. The annual meeting of shareholders of the Masterton Permanent Investment and Building Society was held yesterday, the chairman of directors (Mr. J. C. Boddington) presiding.. The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted. The report showed that the net profit of the society for the past year represented 7.33 per cent on tho average capital, as against 7.32 per cent for the previous year. The total loans .at August 31, 1912, amounted to ■£51,480,- as against .£48,882 at the same date in the previous year. .Messrs. James Macara and W. B. Chennells were reelected. auditors unopposed. Mr.- Cecil Spencer. Compton has been offered, awl has accepted, the position of organist to St. Matthew's Church. ' Seventeen new members were elected, at a meeting of. the.Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Club last evening. -It was.de-. cided to form a cricket team in connection with the club, and to enter the same for the Thursday competitions. It was decided that the first evening run bo held on Thursday, November 7., The president (MrA S. H. Snell) donated a medal for the most improved runner during the season. An-enjoyable "social" was held, in St. Matthew's schoolroom last evening, under the auspices of the Girls' Friendly Society. The sub-committee apDointed by the Masterton Chamber of Commerco'to in-j quire into the question of the establishment of a woollen mill, in the district, is arranging with a Petono gentleman to address tho Chamber on the subject at its ne.tt meeting.' Shearing operations will commence in the Masterton district during the coming fortnight. It. is not anticipated Unit the .slightest difficulty will bo experienced in procuring shearers.
