The 881,241 births registered during tho year give a proportion of only 24.4 per 1000 of the population at nil ages, this being 0.7 per 1000 below tho rate for 1910 —the previous record—aud 2.8 por 1000 below the average for tho preceding leu years. The deaths registered 'in. 1911 numbered 527,804, or 14.G per 1000, (his Ijeing 1.1 per 1000 above 1910. The 1910 figure, however, was the lowest on record, and 1911—though not so favourable—is still 0.8 per 1000 below the average for the preceding len years. Marriages in England and Wales numbered 274,577, the rate of 1,1.2 being 0.2 above the figure or 1910, and 0.11 below (he average of 1909-10.
