MASTERTON NOTES.
(From Our Special Correspondent.) : 4 Masterton, October' 4. , A mob of fifteen cattle, which were recently removed from the Tinakori Hills, near Wellington, have been traced to a farm in this district. The person who brought them to Masterton has mysteriously disappeared, and the police are * investigating. 1 Settlers on the East Coast ire eiperieneing somo difficulty in procuring suitable labour. 'An estate of 1500 acres, near Featherston, has been offered to the Government for closer settlement. Several small properties near Masterton are also under offer. Considerable interest is being manifested in the New Zealand Physical Culture Association's competition, which takes place here next week. Teams from. Christchurch and elsewhere are expected to compete. • first race pf the season in Connection with the Masterton Homing Club was flown from Ohakune yesterday. Fifty-six birds competed. .
