BOILERMAKERS.
DEPUTATION TO MR. MASSEY. A deputation from the Wellington Boilermakers' Society waited upon the Hon. \\ T . F. Mnssey, Minister for Labour, recently regarding tho importation ol ready-iiiado boilers, etc., foT use in the State coal mines. The Hon. F. M. li. Fisher, Minister for Customs and Marine, and Mr. W. 11. J). Bell, M.P. for Wellington Suburbs, were present. Mr. W. H. D. Bell introduced the deputation. It was stated that the iron industry had been in a depressed state for some years, owing to oversea competition and the existing Customs tariff. .The importation of "eady-made boilers, etc., wos intensifying tho' depression, and some protection was urgently needed to assist the industry. Mr. Massey was asked to give this matter his consideration. Tho Minister expressed his pleasure in receiving the deputation. Ho said it was not intended to go into any revision of tho tariff this session, but it was intended' to revise it. next, session. If he could do anything to assist the Industry he would 1* pleased to do so.
