Watson, from the North Island, will bo riding at Diinedin next week. The former will be up on Odessa and Ceylon, while \V«lsoiis mounts are a couple o£ light-weights in tho hack events. W. Young is putting up a good riding record this season. At Wanganui ho had two mounts and two wins, and at Hastings on Wednesday ho put up a similar record. There is n probability that tlio English horso King Mark may bo raced by the. Hon. J. D. Orinoml. Tho four-year-old arrived at Karamu late last week, somewhat low iu condition, and looking as if ho wero very pleased to bo off 'tho boat. Ho is a good-looking bay horse, standing about. 15.2 bands, and well set up, with beautifully sprung ribs, and a. nice, "buoyant action. A bowed tendon may make it a difficult matter to train him, but, if this is got over, and ho strikes his best form, tho opposition will have a very interesting tinio indeed. Prior to coming to this country King Mark cnly raced once, and that was at Hurst Park, where ho won over a mile in lmin. HBsee. Tho luirdlo horso Gaelic, though accepted for, will not bo a runner at the Duncdin meeting. Tho locally-owned Ceylon and Odessa, in charge of H. Pritchard, were sent south on tho Manuka last evening, and will bo racing at tho Dunedin meeting, which opens on Wednesday next. Bon Ton, winner of tho Hawke's Bay Guineas, and Culture, the half-sister to Culprit, wero brought to Wellington by tho Napier mail last evening, and shipped home by tho Mararoa. Tho former has not grown at all. sinco ho was a two-year-old, and, consequently, ho does not strike one as a Derby colt, but. as ho stays on well, he may win the Canterbury Cup. Culture is a washy-coloured chestnut, and, though a late foal, she is now taller than Culprit, but lacks tho width of the latter. She stuck to her task well at Hastings, and should bo well served by time. Though it is some time till tho decision of tlte Champion Plato comes on, (he projected meeting between Los Angelos and Bobrikoff is already exciting kesu interest. Tim black fellow looked big and well at Hastings. The race there and another at Napier will do him an enormous amount of good, and in this respect he may have nil' advantage over Los Angelos, but, on tho other hand, the latter is a very free worker, and can be' depended upon to strip well. Both horses require the,,' going firnl"'for .them to.'show, their best "form. , So..it will, no doubt be the general prayer for fine weather at that time. Acceptances for the Masterton Racing Club's meeting close on Friday next. Owners are given a final reminder that nominations for the Wellington Racing Club's spring meeting closo at 9 o'clock to-night with, tlie club's secretarv, Mr. A. E. Whyte. To-night Mr. J. F. Hartland, secretary of the Auckland Eacing Club, will receive nominations for the principal handicaps at the club's spring meeting and also for the principal events at thb summer meeting. The, Napier Park Racing Chili's spring meeting takes place at Greenmeadows tomorrow. One of the first things to strike racing men when Trafalgar put in an appearance at the Randwick training tracks this time (says the "Arrow") was that he looked burlier than at any of his previous visits to Sydney, but whether ho will race ns well that way as in the past remains to be proved. Trafalgar likes Randwick, 12 of his 23 wins being scored on that track. Many Sydney racing men made tho acquaintance of Mr. James Hennessy when he visited Australia a few years ago (says an exchange), and will consequently be interested in tho following reterenco to the manner in which he. conducts his betting operations: The■ last two races at Baden Baden were taken by Mr. James Hennessy I>y the aid of Pauix and Sea Maid. Tho owner has a curious method of backing his horses. The arrangement he makes year in, year out, with a Paris bookmaker is that- he has .£2OO on every horse he runs, at mutual prices, with a settlement at the end of every year. Rumour has it» that the bookmaker hns never yet had to write a cheque. W-hat a customer! To-day's cables should bring the result of tho .locker Club Stakes, the second of tho English teu thousand pounders. Princo Palatine, Stedfast, and Lycaon, who filled the places in the Eclipse Stakes at Sundown Park in July, were all engaged in yesterday's race. Shuja has apparently sot through tho ordeal of a preparation on the hard tracks in Sydney, as his name appears among tho acceptors for both the. Epsom Handicap and the Metropolitan Handicap at tho A.J.C. meeting. Private information received in Auckland states that Our King is to be sent north to contest tho Great Northern Guineas in preference to his engagements at the C.J.C. spring meeting. Mr. Gordon, who is superintending tho erection of the now totalisator for the Auckland Racing Club, arrived from Sydney last week. The machine arrived on Sunday by the Victoria, and it is intended to put on a double staff of men, in order to haw it ready for tho A.R.C. spring meeting. It is expected that it \rill take at least a month before it will bo in. working order.—Auckland "Star." FIXTURES. Oct. s.—Napier Park B.C. Spring. Oct. 9 and 12.—Dunedin J.C. Spring. October 17.—Mastertou R.C. Spring. Oct. 2-t and 25.—Poverty Bay T.C. Spring. Oct. 20 and 30.—Greymouth J.C. Spring.
