STRANGE LETTER.
COMES BEFORE DR. If ARTHUR. A man, who stated that, he is engaged in tho Government Printing Office, ap. prared before Dr. M'Arthur, S.M., on a judgment summons yesterday. Ho stated that his weekly wago was X.I net, out of which he paid 15s. per week rent for a. house at Brooklyn. Ho was married, and had three children. Mr. C. W. Noilson, who appeared for tho creditor, nsked tho debtor whv he had written liim a letter in which he ' described someone ne "a dirty littlo debtcollecting parasite." "I didn't mean to cast any reflection," said tho dobtor. "I wrote it in a hurry." Mr. Ncilson declared that tho letter waa a very insulting communication; but the debtor nrolestoa "No." Dr. M'Arthur (to the debtor): Yon think that you are going to- shoot at a man, and that ho is not going to shoot bneb at you. Mr. Ncilson: "This is a most offensive letter." Ho then handed Dr. M'Arthur tho communication. Dr. M'Arthur read it, and ho found that tho writer, who had been beforo the Court previously, referred to him (the Magistrate) as a "homely old sort," and also mentioned Mr. Riddell, S.M. The writer also said that there was no immediate prospect of his paying, and that "tho little arts of legal bluff havo long lest their terrors for me." ' Dr. M'Arthur: You will kindly leave Mr. K-iddcll and myself out of the matter. Anyone might think that you came to our houses and had cups of tea, and that we had on that account treated yon leniently. The debtor: "I wTote it in a hurry," Dr. M'Arthur: Yos, you did. You ought to have gone to be<l and slept over it before you wrote it. Tho debtor declared that he had done his best to pay tho account. At one time ho had gono almost barefoot. At present he wns without tho means to get hie littlo girl's eyes attended to, or to have his wife treated for rheumatism. His Worship adjourned the matter for three months.
