MASTERTON NOTES.
(From Our Special Correspondent.) Masterton, October 2. The ordinary meetinj? of the YVairarapa Hospital and iChavitable Aid Board was lield to-day, Mr. E. Ci. Eton, cceupyin; tlic chair. The. treasurer's statement showed a credit at date of .£1713 10>. Sd. The receipts since last meetinc had amounted to ,f37S. r > Ids. Id., ar.d the expenditure to J3IOS 2s. id. it was decided to urge- upon the Government the nocessity of making provision for (lie detention of'morally defective girls and women, as suggested by the Wallace r.iid l'lord Board. The board declined to endorse a recommendation of the Otago Board for a reciprocal arrangement in regard to (no maintenance of indigent hospital patients. A lengthy report was received from the. Wellington Board in regard to the treatment of consumptives, etc., and this was hcai'tilv approved. Various reports wore read and dealt with. Mr. It. G. Welch tendered his resignation as a member, and this was accepted with regret. A becitics.t of £lhO under the will of ihe Irito Mi". Card, in aid of vli« funds of the South Wairarapa Hospital, was acknowledges, and a vote of sympathy passed with the family of the deceased lady. Messrs. Dalgcty and Co., Ltd., of MasIcrton, have sold a line of two-tooth wethers to an Auckland client at IDs. Cd. on the trucks, Wainirapa. Mr. A. 11. Magson, who lias held a responsible position in the firm of Messrs. Donald and Sons for (he last two or three years, has received an appointment with Andersons, Ltd., of Christchureh. A pleasant function took place in th« Methodist schoolroom last evening, when members of the Christian Kndeavour Society met together to say farewell to Mr. T.-'S. Goldsmith, who has hern a prominent member of the society for some limo past. Mr. Goldsmith was presented with two volumes of poems, and a hand-somel.v-hound copy of Wesley's hymns. At the invitation of Mr. If. Kevins, of Annedale, a number of yomi? Tinni farmors visited the Aunedale Herrford stud it few days ago, and were given some vnltiablo instruction by Mr. Xcvins. The practice of visiting rariiius stations in the district, to receive education, is becoming quite common anionj our yotin? farmers.
