Bro. E. J. King, A.D., presided at a largely-attended meeting of local Druids last week, when a considerable amount of business was transacted. Bro. Wiggins won the "Observations" competition. Tho final "social" of the combined athletic clubs was held in the Druids' Hall on Friday evening. Mr. H. Hook was MX'., and Mrs. Vaughan, of Palmerston North, supplied tho music. During the evening Mr. Sinclair gave a recitation. The Shannon Amateur Dramatic Society intern! to produce "The, Private Secretary" in December. The nrocceds will go towards swelling the funds of tho recreation ground. Mr. Gripp has purchased Mr. M. Tippler's carrying business. Mrs. Balding has boon appointed relieving teacher, vico Miss Stevens, at the local school. Mr: Bradley, of Danncvirke, has tukon over the Albion Hotel from Mr. T. J. Callighnn. Mr. W. IT. Gunning, who has been on a trip to tho Old Country and the United States returned to Shannon this week.
