Vice-Regal. His Excellency tho Governor leaves for Wanganui this morning to lay the foundation stone of a new Y.M?C.A. building and an orphanage. On Friday he will proceed on to New Plymouth, from which town he will return on Monday next.

Officers and Territorials to the number of over 200 were present at HI. Mary's Cathedral, Auckland, on Sunday afternoon, at a special- service held in connection with the unveiling of a handsome tablet erected in memory of the lato Colonel Abbott by the Auckland Garrison Olhcers Club. A number of prominent Auckland citizens also attended the function, as well as members of the Empire Veterans' Association, and ex-eontingent-erswho had served with the deceased officer. The service was conducted by bishop Crossley, who referred in tho course of his sermon to the many fine qualities of the deceased. After th'c sermon the tablet was unveiled bv Colonel Heard, who was accompanied i>y Bishop Crossley. The inscription on the tablet made the following reference to the deceased- officer:-" A distinguished and honourable soldier, whose high character and modest nature earned the love and respect of all with whom, ho came into contact. His services tn the Kmpiro throughout the Boer war, 1900-1'.102, his work for the military forces of this district and tho Dominion, and his constant care of thoso under him, both in peace and in war, will cause his memory to be Ion" revered.'"

Captain Hart, late of the Star cf Canada, left Gisborne. on Saturday for Sydney, where he expects to receive orders from England. Mrs. Hart accompanied him.

He lias always taken a great interest in the welfare of the parish generally, In connection with his own little church of St. Peter's, Paekakariki, lie took a very practical interest in its erection about four years ago, and just before his death was the donor of ,v verv nice bell. He was o' an affectionate.,' amiable, and generous nature, which made him beloved by all. Hi* was the first lo be married in St. Peter's Church, Paekakariki. An effort will now bo made by the parochial district and friends to add'the chancel to the church in his memory-"

The Duncdin Presbytery have nominated the R«v. W. M'Ara, of Kaikoura, as Moderator of the next General Assembly.—Press Association. The, Mataura and <Sou('hlnnd Presbyteries yesterday nominated tho Hov. J. Kennedy Elliott, of Wellington, as Moderator for the Presbyterian General Assembly for the next yoar. The death occurred at the Reddon Hospital on Monday evening of Mr. Ernest Frederick Wyatt, a native of Wellington, who for some years was head steward at tho Commercial Travellers' Club. The deceased, who was a brother of Mr. < ! . A Wyatt, of Prince Street, and Mr. IT. J. Wyatt, of Worsor Bay, was only 39 years of a4O. The remains will be cremated at Karori this morning.
