Adams, who was injured when Gondolier fell with him in the Hack Steeple* at the recent meeting, is making a good recovery. The Hawke's Bay Jockey Club will hold its one-day spring meeting at Hastings today, when the Guineas anil Hastings Stakes will be deci/led. AVith the exception of (lie Guineas, in which.only lour horses will start, the fields throughout the day will bo good. Bon Ton will do battle for Messrs. Sicad Bros., and Sir Daniel carries the colours of his breeder, Mr. J. JJobson. Bon Ton, who is thought in some quarters to be the superior of Bon Rove—probably because he has been allowed to remain in tha New Zealand Gup in preference, to Boil Kove— will start favourite. In the Hastings Stakes, Merry Roe, the winner of the Avondale Stakes, will bo required to put up.a 51b. penalty. She may not be seen at her .best, as the trip down from Auckland was a very rough one. Day Fly, a full-sister to Humming Bird, will represent the Kararuu stable, and Culture, the sister of Culprit, will also bo a runner. Recent winners—Bravest and Strathmoira—will be seen out in the Hack Hurdle?, and a largo field will contest the Maiden Hack Race. Manukau. an inmate of A. Nualo's stable?, is likely to be well supported, as lie showed fair form at'Dannevirke, but the aristocrati-cally-bred . Red Book—a. full-brother to Iho Australian, horse Uluo Book, who dead-heated with Aborigine in tha Caulh'eld Cup—has only to be saddled \ip to bo well faueied. . The. distance, however, may find outißed Book, who is reported to be backward, while .Manukau will be at a big advantage in having the Dannevirke race, which was over a sevenfurlonir course. .''■_• '-■ '; ' Multiply ran in tlie Guineas at Wangamii and to-day is to t stirt in a hack.race. Thn presenco •of Diavob and . Marimba will make for a good race. Marimba, - may be mentioned, has a good record so as, out of three starts last season, she was twice placed first and once second. The I'inal Handicap will olford Bobrlkoff iho opportunity of showing whether or not he ean "come back." Last year lie made his first appearance- for the season, in the same race, and, carrying lfct., won nicely. 'On that occasion, however, ho had A. Oliver' iji the saddle, and moreover, mis distinctly-fortunate- at the barrier—a contingency not likely to. occur to-day. It is understood that owing to the beat passing Gisborne without calling Birkliiio will not bo a starter at Hastings to-day. It was thought that Jason (Achilles— Stepina), who has earned a bii reputation on the Hastings tracks, would sharo favouritism with .Merry lioe in the two-year-old race this afternoon,' but n telegram received in Wellington, yesterday stated that Mv. K. 3. WottV colt had broken : down, siid would not be a runner.
