HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A special meeting of the Lower Unit Borough Council w;i» held last evening, to consider a report by the borough engineer on the completion of the drainage, addition to reservoir. mid oilier works. Tho.-.o present were: The Mayor (Mr. K. I'. Bunny), and Councillors Hob!)-. Hull, ifoots, Cii'iidon. Kempthorne, Hawthorne, Hodgins, mid Knight. Councillor T. C. Dawson, the newlvelccted councillor, inado the usual declaration, and took his seat: at the table. The report provided lor (lie completion of Section 5 and Iho completion of Hantaan Street, at: a cost, of .£1:150; providing and fixing .10 manholes on (lie western side of the river at a cost of .£300; providing penstocks and fixing 2 12in. at .£5, and 2 oin. at ,Sl—.Ctti; providing centrifugal pumps for septic tanks and fitting—(wo at <fSO each, ,t!UII); increasing height of reservoir to provide extra storage capacity, .£1270; spaces for new pump and ca.se, .£-(0; extending shafting, shed over pump, .£3O; starters for engines, ail" compressor, etc., .£75; newwells, ,£IOO. Total estimated cost, .£3331!. Each clauso of the report was dealt with separately, and, after di.seus.sion, it was decided to include Ihe various items in each clause in the loan proposals. It was also resolved that the item of .£1270 for increasing the height of tho reservoir should form a separate proposal, so that ratepayers could reject if they so wished. It was further resolved to include an amount of ,£l6l for contingencies, thus making the total 'amount of tho proposed loan <£3500, and tho Mayor and Town Clerk were authorised to take tho necessary- stops to raise the loan and to tako a vote of the ratepayers on tho proposal.
