ASSOCIATED ENGINE-DRIVERS.
♦ , Dissatisfaction with the conditions under which its members are employed was expressed by a deputation from the Federated Engine-drivers, River Engineers and Firemen's Association, which waited upon the Minister l'or Labour (tho Hon. W. F. Massev) yesterday morning. The deputation eomprisud: Messrs. J. Read (Wellington), T. Cain (Auckland), and F. C. Ellis (Christchurch). It was introduced by Mr. A. E. Glover (Auckland Central), and accompanied by Messrs. Bradney (Auckland West) and Coates (Kaipara). The Minister was informed that the present conditions for engine-drivers are fixed by tho award governing tho industry, in which they, are engaged; and this was unsatisfactory to them. The association proposed that the law should be amended to enable it to', obtain au award fixing conditions "for the employment of engineers in all industries in which its members were engaged. Mr. Massey expressed his appreciation of the difficulties of the present positiou, and promised to consult the Secretary for Labour and the Crown Law Officers, with a view to devising some remedy.
