MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Before Sir. W. G. Riddell, S.M.) THE KNOX CHARGES, BROUGHT UP AND REMANDED. . At the 'Magistrate's Court j-esteTday, before Mr. W.' G. Riddell, S.M., William Knox was further remanded, until October 7, on four charges of committing certain serious offences. When Mr. Fitzgibbon, who appeared for accused, .asked for bail, the magistrate stated that he had inceased tho amounts. Knox would bo allowed bair in the sum of <£200, with, two sureties of U!100 each. ' Mr: Fitzgibbon intimated that his client was unable to obtain that' amount. • Ho suggested two, sureties of £75 each. His Worship fixed bail.at ,£2OO, with two sureties of =£75 each. ■ INSOBRIETY CASES. ' ' , The following cases of insobriety were dealt with:—James Holleran, fined 10s„ 'or 21 hours' imprisonment; Alexander As- ' pen, 55., or 24 hours' William Egan, 405., or • seven days' imprisonment ;. David Dunnon, 205., or three days' imprisonment. Five first offenders were also'dealt, with. Jamas' Slierau was convicted and discharged on a charge of insobriety. On a charge of resisting the police, he was fined 405., in default seven days' imprisonment. - 1 MAINTENANCE CASES. William' Slattery was charged _with disobeying a maintenance order, and was fined 20s:, and costs .£1 Is., in default seven days' imprisonment. ' - On a similar offence Herbert Ernest Ryan was convicted, and sentenced to three months' imprisonment. William Henry Trengrove was ordered to pay 305., per week towards the support of his family and wife. James Mason made application for the remission of arrears, and also for the re-' duction of an order relating to the maintenance of children in the industrial school. ' His Worship remitted the arrears, and' varied the order by reducing the amount to 6s. per week. PROHIBITION ORDERS. ' Isidore Ja'cobiis was charged with ■ a breach of a prohibition order, and was remanded for sentence until to-day. On similar, charges Jessie M'Ewan was fined "205., in default seven days' imprisonment, Phillip. Sharkey was fined £3, s with costs '45,,- .or seven days' imprisonment, and-.William. Stcnhouso was fined dC3, 'or seven days' imprisonment.
