Mr'., Russell askkl, tlio Prime Minister when ]io .proposed to take, the.second reading, .debate,on-the land,Bill. Mr; Massey said .that -it . depended on -the -'progress , made'.by -the Lands Committee -in dealing with.- the Bill/-. It would be brought up as soon as it had been reprinted. -Mr-.' C.-'A: Wilkinson,'tho new member for Egmont, made his first appearance in the House,- and was 'sworn'- in. His sponsors, were Messrs. H. J. H. Okey and' J.. 8.'.-Hine.'. Thfe House .spent, the;'greater part of the; afternoon in, second-reading debates. The Wanganui River Trust Amendment Bill' (Mr.: Massey), the •. Isitt (Christchurch North) declared' that he had been gross- ' ly, misrepresented in a leading article in The Dominion of that morning, -and he moved that' a breach' of privilege had been committed. He' did not persevere with his motion; for whercas'66veral of . his friends advised him to .withdraw it, Mr.. G. W. Russell was the only speaker taking part iii' the,halfJiour discussion who said,.'he ought to go on with it. In ■the end he asked leave to withdraw his. motion, and no. objection was offered. At 7.30 p.m. the, House went into Committee of Supply upon the Estimates of the Department of Education; Discussion ran on-.placidly 'for hours except when Mr. A.
