STATIONARY ENGINE-DRIVERS.
Tlio industrial dilute which has arisen between the Wellington Stationary Traction and Locomotive Engine Drivers 1 ' Industrial Union of Workers and Messrs. W. Cable -mid Co. and 1 others was-heard before (he Coiicilialion Comiiiis-ioner (.Mr. r. Hally) ye-terday. The 'assessors i'or ' the employers were Messrs. 1). liulli it;-- .' C. Croil, and J. Nicholson. Messrs. 'J.J. Cain, Ed. M'Conuell, and .lohn llead wcro 1 • the assessors for the union. The union asks lor a iorly-cight hours..', week, exclusive of the time necessary lor ' getting up steam for Ilia machinery ill tlio factory or works. Tho union provides that each employer shall be cntilled t arrange such hours of work according to.„the exigencies of his business. " Overtime is asked at the rale of time and a quar- ■ ter for the first,two 'hours, and .time.,mid:; a half for all further time. Exception:, The case of time occupied in ijeUihg up sitoam, which shall by paid tar at ordiu-' , arv rales. In tho case of factories, the drivers of engines shall be on- - titled to Die holidays Riven by ouy award or industrial agreement allccling the factory, or, ill cases where thetc is no award, or 'industrial agreement alfccting the- . same, to any holiday generally observed in the factory whereby the same ceases to • work. For work done on such holidays the rate of overtime .shall be time and a-half. The following shall be the minimum rates-of wages !u be paid to enginedrivers of stationary engines who are in charge of any boiler within tho meaning of the Inspection of Machinery Act, 1908, . for each day's work, inclusive of tho • time necessarily occupied in gutting up strain for the factory or works;— Whore tho work that the engine-driver is employed to do requires that he shall hold a first-class certificate as a stationary en-gine-driver, Is. 4Jd. per hour,' where the work which he is engaged io do requires • that he shall be the holder of a secondclass certificate as a stationary engine- . driver,'and he is the holder of a JecoudeliisA certificate, Is. 3d. per hour; for work requiring a traction 01' locomotive certificate fol' engines moved from placolo place bv their own motive power,.ls. „ 4-Wl. per limit; for Voi'k requiring no . cettilielite for engines of less than Mi eirCUlnr inches, and above 19 circular inches, Is.
