TILT AT A RACE CLUB. (By. Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, September 27. At the annual meeting of the Takupuna Jockcy Club the chairman referred 1 to a statement made in Parliament last molltli by ilv. llussell, the member forAvon, who said, "Everyone know that tho Takapuna Club was to all intents and purposes a proprietary club, and that tho proprietors wero the peoplo who owned tho Auckland and North Shore Ferry Company." The chairman stated that tlie statomcnt mado by Mr. Russell was absolutely unfounded. "I how publicly state,' 1 ho concluded, "that the .Takapuna Jockey Club is in no respect a proprietary club, that the whole of the receipts are expended in connection with racing, and that no persons, other than officials and workers, rcceive any financial benefit whatever in connection with the club. Further, that tli© Devonport Ferry Company does not reap any 'harvest in conveying people from Auckland to Devonport to attend meetings of tho club. A 9 you all know, tho through ticket (including steamer return faro and admission to the course) is issued at ono shilling. This is tho cheapest combined travelling fare and admission to the course ticket issued, not only in Australasia, but/ probably ill the world."
