An extremely comprehensive work or New Zealand is about to bo compiled bj the Foreign and Colonial Compiling anc Publishing Company, of 27 Pilgrim Street London, which is at present represents in - Wellington- by its chief'director oi operations, Mr. Somerset Wayne, F.IJ.G.S. who has already directed the compilatioi of -several works of reference of 13ritisl; Oversea Dominions. Tho work' on Nen Zealand, which is to bo edited _ by Mr Holdness Gait, will ii.ice tho history nl Wcw Zealand from tho earliest day's oi .English settlement to tho present, and is to deal, according to Jlr. Plaync, witli every phase of industrial and commercial life, specialising in the primary produets and works arising therefrom, th< natural resources of tho country, commercial and aesthetic. Each district wili be also treated separately, its history, progress, and particular features and businesses described. The work will bo frcclv illustrated in tho best style, and will contain a series of special articles'writteu by , fully-qiinlified specialists.
