The. proceedings during the forenoon were ..concerned, with, committee buejness. During the afternoon the con-ference,-in. .general .meeting, adopted the foUowing.resoliitions: — ' — . o "That the ..Shops and. Offices Act, 1908, be, amended % reinserting the words deleted by the 1910 Amendment Act from Clause 3; also that- Clause 4 of. Section 6 be. reinserted." (Moved. by Mr. K. C. BisKoi), and seconded by Mr. D. Goldie.) . "That the Government be urged to amend the Wages Protection and Contractors' Lien Act, 19DB, in the direction of mnking'it compulsory for the sub-contrac-tor as well as the contractor. to enforce] the provisions in Clause 60; also to point J out that the Act is inoperative so far as Clause 60 is concerned.' (Moved by Mr. H. W. Davies, and seconded by Mr. T. S. Weston.) " , „ "That, tliis, conference of .the, J»ew Z.ea-. land Employers' Federation recommend to-: the Government for its serious consideration the offer of the Kthelburga . or any other syndicate to develop the iron industry of the Dominion." ' . „ "That this federation supports the reqnest of the Furniture Workers' Association Te regulation of the employment of Chinese in furniture factories." (Moved by Mr. C. E. "That tha Government, be approached in regard to having all goods sheds kept open for the receipt of goods till 5 p.m ; on week davs and 1 p.m. on Saturdays. ■ 'Moved by Mr. G. Caiman, and seconded bv Mr. T.' Ballinger.) 'The conference then rose, after recording its thanks to the chairman, to Mr. \Vm. Scott for his work on the Arbitration Court in the interests of the employers. and to Mr. Wm. Pryor for his services as secretary, of the federation.
