Heavy rain fell overnight, and this made the going worse than yesterday. The attendance fell off considerably, but the racing was more interesting than on tne first dav, and particularly fine finishes were -witnessed in tho big race and the Trial Handicap. ~,,-. In tha Hnrdles Silver Cluso and lashjon Plate were withdrawn, and Sleacombo started favonrite. His backers w-era soon put out of suspense; for he lost his rider at tha first fence: The second proved fatal to Strategist, and Morryvale ran off At the'third. This left Parakiore in tho van, and ho led to the four furlongs, where Strathmoira moved up, and, taking charge in the run round the bend, he won nicely from Don Carlos, and Himitangi. Flingot was .up with the leaders in the early part of tha race, but a bad jump at the back settled '-his chances.
St. Serf started a warm favourite in the seven ""furlongs Hack Race, and, in the running, ho appeared to have a lot in his favour. However, at the business end) ,he failed' to withstand a strong: challenge by Bonnie Boy, who'was a better horse than on the first clay, but ho was wanting when pressure was applied. Runaway Girl (C. Jenkins) was on the fence irrthe Trial.Handicap, and started favourite. The race was tlte best of the .meeting, and after the field had undergone several changes,, Lady Mildred took charge at the distance, and won by a length, with Paparcara.nia, Yankee D.-odle. Stockade, ■and Panthoa in a.line. Sir Daniel, who was well backed, was close up to tho placed horses, but Peggy ran very badly, after having every chance.
1 The Whitney colours, which, have been .out of luck for some time, had a winning turn in the President's Handicap, when Odessa, after a splendid race, won by a. neck from Miscal. Another outsider in . Mulete?r was third, jnst ahead '.'of Mulga Bill, who got a bad run. Cork led till well down the running, when the field .hunched, and a grand race •. took place. ■Brawn Trout gave a better exhibition than ho has dons for sonic tfeno. and so did several of the others. Byron, looking very backward, was last the w'holo way, with the exception of Routine, who was badly 1 left.
Peroneal finished un a slishtlv better favourite' than Lady Louisa, in the Electric Hack. The start was not a hnpoy effort, and the lioitos- named sat badly .away. King's Favourite-led. War Queen and Es:snt* to (lie turn, where Peroneal '•slipped Tip on the fence. She could not reach War Quean, who won nicely, hut accounted for the other pair, au'd was unlucky hot to scare outright. llr. H.
