G. YV. Aitkt'ii, A. n. Vile, Wro. Allan, and W. H. Field. Bd. upon tho statement, the chairman remarked.thntthe;debit balance seemed large, but the outgoings this' month had 'been heavy, including a sum of .£3750 for a new site at South Wellington, of which the total cost was .£3950.' A request was received from the residents of Tablelands, for the provision of a residence for the teacher. The secretary remarked that the board had experienced some difficulty in getting single women to live in isolated residences.. It was agreed, however, that it was frequently the. (asc for single women to have tho companionship of a relatiou, and that a two-roomed residence would meet the requirements of Tablelands. Tho Inspector (Mr. T. R. Fleming) pointed out that the. spoeifien-! tions for teachers' residences had been standardised, and a two-roomed dwelling was below tho specification. It was decided, accordingly, to apply to the Government for a foiir-roomcd residence. Two applications were received from Fcatherslon South, one for additions to the school, and the other for the provision, of a. residence. It was decided, with regard to the former, to approvo of the application provisionally, and if a second teachctl should bo required, as seemed not improbable from present indications, a new room could be added. With respect to the latter, it was agreed to apply to the Government for a grant in aid of the erection of a residence. •
