We have -received a communication from Mr. W. Rogers, secretary of the Blackball Miners' Union, complaining of the ventilation in the Blackball mine. The complaint appears to be that, insufficient: air. is carried to the face of the workings. The general manager of the mine and the Government Inspector of Mines, in response to a complaint from the miners, visited the mine, lint declared the ventilation to be sufficient, although it is contended that the miners and check inspectors insist that it is not. According to the secretary of the Miners' Union, the air is undoubtedly in tho mine, and even in tho particular section the subject of complaint, but this, it is submitted, is of no benefit, to tho men by reason of it not being conducted to the face. Apparently what is desired is that the Coal Mines Act should be amended to provide the specifiej amount of air shall sweep 011 to tho working face where the men are employed. * "Dear mo," said Hip .vounsr wife, "what can be the matter with the tinned salmon? I have boiled it for two hours, and there is no indication of the tin coming off." ■
