MOUNT HECTOR TRACK.

Sir,—l was pleased lo see a report in. your journal recently relative to the activity now being shown in the above track by the gooil people of Otaki. They have formed a committee which, I trust, wilJ work in with tho Wnirarnpa people, in making the above .track a great tourists' and week-end journey from Groytown to Otaki or vice versa. I om confident that when once this delightful trip beccmos more generally known it will'ta the most popular one in the North Island. The Greytown committee have had a great deal of work .put into the track, but still more is required. On the other side Mr. W.'II. Field, late M.F. for the.district, has done good work, and now it wants joint action to moke the route a "crowning success," and I would suggest that an immediate conference be held between the two bodies to arrange for further work. Tho present track will want renovating for the coming season,,after the past winter, and should bo attended to at once. Then the people of Wellington should loyally assist tho movement.' as it will be an,indirect benefit to them,: bv excursionists coming or going through that city en route. There will he many, i ladies and gentlemen of Wellington who | will be glad to make the trip one for a week-end jaunt. To those who take an interest in'mountaineering this trin should I appeal, and.anv such can get all information from either the Greytown or Otaki secretaries. At present the higher peaks are snow-clad, but this will soon be gone now and n party from Greytown will be making a trip across to Otaki in November to see that the track is clear for the general public to walk through. There is no end of variety en route,' .with the usual mountain foliage and flowers, etc. So far tho expenditure, outside Government grants, has fallen nn the country people. Will the Wellington citizens render a little "first-aid" ?—J om. etc..
