STREET SENSATION.

THE HORSE'S CAREER. CRASHES THROUGH A WINDOW. Quite n singular accident—nml a somewhat serious one—occurred in Ihc busy part' ofilaunore Street early on Saturday afternoon. It; appears that a horse escaped, from Messrs. O'Brieu and Ca.'s horso W.nar hi Dixou Street, and careered along Herbert • Street and into Manners Strer-t at a furious pace. Herbert Street runs oIT Manners Slreet almost at right-angles, and evidently the. horso was unable, at the pace at which it wsts galloping to turn, into Manners Street, as it more or less slid across tho blocks, and then, to the, amazement of the spectators, crashed heavily into the big plate-glass window of "ZakV postcard shop. Needless to say, the glass was shattered to atoms, and the fittings inside the window, wero also damaged. , A dramatic part of tho event was tho narrow escape from very serious injury of a little girl who happened to be looking in tho window at tho timo. As it was she was hurt. She was apparently unconscious of the approaching danger, until the horso cras-hed inlo the window and she. was knocked on to tho [lavement. When picked up, she was bleeding from several rather severe wounds, and after being attended by Mr. Evans, chouiist, Manners Street, she was removed to : tho residence of Dr. Pollen, who attended her. rho young lady who looks after tho business in the shop in question also had rather a narrow escape. At the time of tho crash she was standing behind tho counter, when ail at onco the whole of the woodwork behind the window was driven in. Sho was knocked to tho floor, Jml for ( a while was pinned by Ihe comiter against the wall. The shock affected her for some time afterwards. The. horse, not content with tho mischief a ready done, then continued its career along Manners Street, but finally slipped and fell at the Albert Hotel corner. Be.lorc the animal had timo to rite, it was (nado a captive by some bystanders. 'i'iio vholo thing formed a very livclv street episode while it lasted.
