Commenting on (lie Coal Vend judgment, tho "Daily Telegraph" says:—"So far us an unbiased lay- mind can see daylight through a thicket of legal technicalities, in which the fnets are obscured, the Vend decision will have the endorsement of tho country's common-sense." Tho "Herald" says:—"A luminous judgment draws what most will commend ns. tho proper distinction between, lawful combinations and combinations (o the detriment of the public. The whole case turned on the word ■detriment.' The judgment indicates that defendants, in taking tho steps they did for the preservation of trade and the maintenance of tho wages of their employees, did nothing unlawful; that, on the contrary, they conserved the interests of the workmen and themselves."
