TUG OF WAR.
THE DRIVERS IN TRAINING. A DEMONSTRATION. On Wednesday evening twoufy men lay on their sides in "u" Shed hugging a rope between their knees, and, ou oieh side, was a crowd of interested spectators, who occasionally "urged on" the team they favoured. Tho position wns that, tho Wellington Drivers' team, who have , been -training strenuously for some time, in view of their coming visit to Sydney, were trying conclusions with a team representing the watersido workers. At the word "Go!" the muscles tautened, the bent legs straightened ever' to little, and, for a while, the rope moved slightly backwards and forwards. The tussle had commenced in' real earnest. The. men, who were all big fellows, settled down to their task, which was certainly no easy one. And so both teams pulled and strained, until the drivers' team, after a twenty minutes' pull, were declared the winners, having won by'3ft. Gin. Mr. J.- Doyle was the referee. It was a remarkable pull, there being a narked result at every tug. Following upon tho tug-of-war exhibition, a display of .tho catch-as-catch-ean style of wrestling wns given by Kent (list.) and Hester (10st. 51b.) Tho' display caused great amusement amongst those present, us the etyle of wrestling appeared to bn father amateurish. However, the exhibition lasted ton minutes, nnd resulted in Kemp winning by one fall. The Drivers' B team then pulled Cable's Foundry team for ten minutes, and won by loin. Tho original drivers' team subsequently pulled tho wlyjrf labourers' team for five minutes, and won by 2ft. The performances were, witnessod by about 400 people,. and diirin? the evening the Waterside Workers' Baud played selections. The Jlayor (Mr. D. M'Laren) was amongst those present. The Wellington Drivers' team, which leaves for Sydnev • "--day, is as follow.-P. Plielan, J. O'Leary, R. Peid, P. Fox, J. O'Brien, B. Bnird, M. Bavin, A. Hamilton, A. Brown, H.
