They will refuse to recognise the authority of an Irish Parliament, being confident that God will defend the right."
The members of ono Unionist club, armed with dummy rifles, and of another in khaki uniforms, paraded Lisburn, where Sir Edward Carson was addressing a vast open-air audience, and rend the covenant. "
Sir Edward Carson declared that if tho Government persisted in its fatuous and nefarious policy he and those associated with him would go to any lengths in' defenco of Ireland.
In the disturbances in the Sandy How district of Belfast, tho hooligans threw volleys of stones at windows and wrecked Italian ice-cream sliops. They nlso looted grocery and spirit stores. Unionist Club men assisted the police to restore order. Elsewhere, mill girls took part in several scrimmages, catching hold of each other's hair and fighting violently until tho constabulary intervened. MOCK SOLEMNITY. "DAILY NEWS" CONTRAST. (Itec. The "Daily News" (Libora) contrasts what it describes as the mock solemnity of the Tllsteicovenant and the mock heroics of Sir Edward Carson's rhetoric with Lord Diinraven's letter, which, it points out, incidentally appealed to Irish Unionists and Nationalists to meet jointly and draft tho most just and : suitable Home Eu!o Constitution.
