! '■ ■ * (By Chanteder.) ■'

■ : Eggs for Vancouver. By the Mai'ama, leaving Auckland next week, an experimental shipment of eggs will be mado under Government supervision to Vancouver. Eggs and poultry are verv ecareo in British Columbia, and the rapidly-growing population increases the. demand imich quicker than tho New' Zealand is specially suited to take up somp of this trade, and tho contracts of private firms to supply Vancouver during the coming season total close on 100,000 dozen. JTieso shipments will rcmovo the reproach that tho poultry-in-dustry has no export trade, though in reality it is muck greater than many peoplo think. The hundreds of .birds and thousands of eggs taken from New Zea-land-to'supply the Home boats for the use of, passengers totals some thousands of pounds aunnally, but no credit is given for this as an.export-trade. It is to be hoped tho shipment will prove a success. ' Encouragement to Growers. Once ■Wβ get a regular export trade in poultry and eggs, it will give a great incentive .to tho industry. Those in a large way can with confidence doublo their ilocks, while beginners need have no fear now that aft outside is assured. It is tho export trade that /helps to build up any industry, and the possibilities of JNew Zealand to develop tho poultry industry is very bright. ■ There are many obstacles to overcome, but with united, effort they can bo easily surmounted. The Government are acting wisely in taking up trial shipments, as it is believed that with tho short distance to Vancouver and the .high prices ruling in that market the ponltrymen have a bright future for their industry.

is sold through these yards. The egg market is not so well concentrated; In fact, the trouble is there are too many sellers, and one agent cuts against another, all to the notiltrymen's loss. The industry is growing on every hand, and in a few years should double itself. All that is neded is an export trade to give producers encouragement to double their Ilocks and increase their output.
