Tho United Friendly Societies of Petone hold thoir wiiiding-up social evening in St. Augustine's Holl last evening. Prcgressivo euchre engaged the attention of those* prcsent'lunliU.Kf'O'clpck, wh<m sup-;' per was served: A danco followed.'Tho Oddfellows were the winners of tho card tournament shield.' Tho men of the congregation of the Potonp Church gave a "(•■ocinl" to the ladies and friends in the chapel last evening. Jir, It, A. Wright occupied tho chair, and the programme met with marked appreciation by the audience. Tho monthly meeting of the Pctono District High School was held last evening. Those -present were Messrs. D. M'lCenzio (chairman), M'Donald, Kirk, Cox, List, Jledhurst, Townserid, AbraliaJl, and Taylor (secretary). Tho local Salvation Army Corps waited on tho committee nnd presented a framed photograph of the late General Booth, this to be hung in the corridor of the main school. Tho chairman, speaking on behalf of tho committee, thanked the donors. Tho headmaster (.Mr. W. tester) reported that the number on the roll at the beginning of the month was 699 in tho primary department and 53 in the secondary classes. Scholars admitted during tho month totalled 21 in tho primary school; withdrawn, H. The roll number at the end of the month was i<lß.
