MID-WEEK AND SATURDAY. FORMER PREVAILS. Wednesday A ... i Juniors 0 Wednesday B ... 6 Third Class ... 2 Both games were played at Kami Park on Wednesday afternoon, the ground being heavy from tile rain of tho previous night. Tho Saturday teams were not up to their full strength, several alterations having to be made in both teams owing to men being unablo to obtain leave from work. Considering the state of tho ground the play was very good, especially in tho junior game. Tho Wednesday players showed tho better combination and at times indulged in some good parsing rushes, which, however, were stopped by tho fine defenco of the junior backs, Tinriey, ingoal, saving in fine style on several occasions. 11l tho third-class game the Wednesday . players had nil the best of the game in tho first half, but in the second spell, their younger opponents played up with good combination and put "life" into their work. Considering that sonio of them aro playing hockey for the first time this season tho display was reallr good. WEDNESDAY A-JUNIORS. From tlio "bully-off" the Wednesday men got tho ball, and play was soon inside tho juniors' twenty-five, H. Spiers saving and sending tho ball back past lalfway. Atkin, at half-back, returnwl, and from a putt by Cole, Grncie scored. Wednesday, 1; Juniors, 0. The Juniors then pushed somo dash into their game and presently had "Wednesday" on tho defence and Gayford, with a hard drive, shifted play over the half-way line. The forwards then carried play into the Junior circle, Tinnoy stopping a hot one from Lyons, and sending tho ball up tho field. Play wa.s now round Wednesday's circle, but "off-side" llost the Juniors a chance. From the free-hit play was carried right down the field, and from a freehit, the ball was sent into the circle and Lyons notched tho second goal for "Wednesday." Thereafter the latter had the better of the gamo for a time, but tho fino defence of the Junior backs saved, and play was then carried into the Wednesday circle, the latter saving by giving si corner. Play shifted down field and, from a fine bit of combination, the Wednesday players enabled Gracio to add the third goal. Tho spell ended with the;to : tuk reading: Wednesday, 3; Juniors, 0. In the second spell the Juniors, playing with better combination, time after time had plav inside the Wednesday twenty-five, only to bo driven back by Gayford and Paget. ' About half-way through the spell Gracic, from n forward rush, scored the fourth goal. Thereafter play was very even, but the Juniors missed two chanccs by bad shooting. Wednesday eventually won by four goals to nil. For the winners, Lyons, Gracie, M'Nally, Gayford, and Paget stood out, while; for the Juniors, the most conspicuous were Tinner, Spiers, Haigh, llurrcll, Brooker, and Hogg. Mr. J. C. Cusack was referee. WEDNESDAY~B—THIItD CLASS. In the first spell tho Wednesday players were predominant, and early in the game Lewar scorcd from a forward passing rush. The "Thirds" only got over tho half-way line about four times, and the spell ended: Wednesday, 1: Third Class, 0. :In the second spell the Wednesday representatives again opened well. Lewar added two more goals, and Caterer added to tho Wednesday; score. Tho Thirds putting more life into tho game, placed the "Wednesdays" on tho defence, and, from a forward passing rush, Boland notched their first goal. When the game restarted, Caterer headed a forward rush, and, from a scramble, added another goal for Wednesday. The "Thirds," from a free hit, got over the Wednesday' twentyfive. and Schufenbcrg scorcd the second goal. For a time "Thirds" held their .own, but, eventually, a misshit by one tho halves allowed "Wednesdays to get into tho circle, whence Ball found the net. „Tho game ended in favour of the Wednesday team by 6 goals to 2. For tho winners, Sherwood, M'Keevcr, Lewar, and Spiers were tho best, and for the Third Class team, Smith, Schulenberg and Thornton caught "the eye. Messrs., Brough and Manning were the .referees. Wednesday B:—Goal, Smith; full-backs, Sherwood, Bale, Half-backs, Henderson, M'Keever, Cameron; forwards. 1,. Spiers, Topplin, Lewar, Clnpshaw, Caterer. Third:—Goal, Gow; full-backs. Smith, C. Thornton; half-backs, Thornton, Brockett; forwards, Boland, Atkinson, Schulenberg, Foss, Mackenzie. IN SOUTH CANTERBURY. (By Telegraph.—Press As!ocix»<on.) Timaru, September 19. Twenty teams, including some from Ashburton and Waimate, took part in a hockey tournament this afternoon in fine weather. Ashburton won tho senior men's event after five strenuous spells with Terangi (Timaru), I—o. In the junior grado St. Mary's beat Ashburton, 2—o. Of the eight ladies' teams, High School A eventually won over Waimate A by 1 goal to 0. Members of the Wellington representative team, which is to do battle against Canterbury for the shield to-morrow, left for Christchurch by tho Mararoa last evening.
