HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.

The Wellington Hospital Committee met yesterday afternoon, Mr. J. Trevor presiding. Those present were: Messrs. G. Nash, H. Baldwin, B, E. Gardener, J. Godber, F. T. Mooro, W. Toinpsitt, and the Rev. 11. Van Staveren. A. number of lantern slides, for the entertainment of the children, ivere received from the Department of Tourist and Health Resorts, as a donation. Upon the recommendation of the House and Finance Committee, it was decided to appoint an extra charge nurse for the Children's Hospital, and Out-patients' Department respectively. It was reported that Senior Nurses Meddins, Smailes, Chapman, Ward, and Davison had been promoted to charge nurses. Nurse Packard had been appointed senior nurse. It was decided that the salaries of fourth-year nurses, who have passed all examinations,. bo raised from MO to £50 per annum. The resignations of Assistant-Dispenser A. Young, and Charge Nurses Henderson and Mac Donald. were received with regret. The thanks of the committee were extended to Messrs. Whitcombe and Tombs for donation of books, and Mr. W. Wilson for donation of a cot to the Children's Hospital. It was decided to make further representations to tho Public Works Department in connection with tho proposal to form a track to tho Fever Hospital. Tho mother of a nurse who had severed her connection with tho Hospital staff wrote making complaint with regard to certain remarks made by a member of the board. The writer stated that her daughter did not resign through any harshness on the part of the matron, but purely for family reasons. Returns placed before tho meeting indicated that 302 patients were under treatment on September 10, as agninst 252 for the corresponding period last year. The numbers of patients in the various hosnitals are:— Victoria, males 20. females 10; Seddon, males lfi, females 5; Infectious Diseases, males 10, females .12; Children's, males 38. females 18; General, males 81, females 83. The Otaki Sub-committee reported that tbe statistics for the month of August were:—Hospital, admitted 10, discharged 9. under treatment 4- males. 5 females; Sanatorium, admitted G, discharged 7, under treatment 14 males, 10 females.
