Profossor Woodruff, who is 34 years old, occupies the chair of veterinary medicine in the Hoyal College of London. On September 30 next, Field-Marshal Earl Roberts, V.C., will celebrate tho SOth anniversary of his birth, and tho National .Service league, of which the veteran Field-Marshal is the president, has initiated a movement for a proposed testimonial to him as a tributo of tho universal respect in which ho is held by all classes. Of Hie money raised by iho various branches of the National Service League, a certain sum will l>o set apart for a personal gift to Lord Roberts, but, in accordanoo with his special request, tho bulk of (ho subscriptions will be placed in his hands to be utilised in furthering the adoption of universal military training by tho Old Country. Captain P. Svjnon and Captain R. B. Dr. Elizabeth H. B. Macdonald has arrived from London, and has again taken up the practice of her profession with Dr. Maekiri. Since the visit to Melbourne of the Rev, J. 13. Watts-Ditchfield, M.A., when much progressive work was done oil behalf of tho Church of England's Men's Society, tho question of appointing an organising secretary for the province of Victoria has been under consideration by tho executive committee of the society. At a recent meeting it was decided to endeavour to raise JISOO a year for three years for this purpote, and the sum of JE2O(S was promised for the first year by. 161 men who took part in the gathering. Tho position of organising secretary has now been offered to the Kcv. A. B. Tress, rector of St. Stephen's Church, Richmond, and it is understood that, with the consent of Archbishop Clarke, he will shortly enter upon a scheme for a continuation of the excellent spiritual work accomplished by Mr. field.
