Mr. G. F. C. Campbell (Commissioner of Taxes) said last night at the meeting of tho Chamber of Commerce that it was a very unpleasant thin? (o be n tax commissioner and to have to impose taxes. Everylwdy objected to taxation: he objected" to it himself. Tho new tramway waiting-shed in Post Office. Square, the contract for which was signed yesterday, will contain, in addition to the usual conveniences for waiting passengers, a retiring-room for ladies, and olliee accommodation for a small staff. The building will bo begun at once, and should be ready for ii.se in. a very few weeks' time. The annual dinner of the Incorporated Institute of Accountants of New Zealand is to bo held at the Burlington Cafe, Lambton Quay, this evening.
The oddest newspaper in the world wart one. named the "Wochenblntl," which was published in Grumngon, a small town of some 1200 inhabitants in the Canton of Zurich, in Switzerland. It. was the only newspaper in the plaee, and was at one and the same'time the organ of the Liberal-Conservatives and the Social Democrats. The late London-Edinburgh Trial saw the Bradbury Motor Cycle successful again. On this occasion liine gold medals were awarded the nine Bradburv's that entered.
