HOROWHENUA COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Horovdienua County Council was held on Saturday. Correspondence wns read and dealt with as follows:— prom the Public Trustee, stating that it was prepared to grant a loan of X2WO for work at Makeruu, provided that the s-ccurity was satisfactory. Received. From the llatcngo Kstalc, stating in response to the council's warning that a fence abutting the road at Wnikanao would be removed. From the District KngiiiecT, ttatinu that the matter of a level crossing at the roihrny line at Te Iloro would receive consideration. From i'. AY. Lambert and 31 rs. Cooper, asking for culverts nt their respective, properties at Shannon and 3!anal;au. Keferred to the inspector. From fho District Engineer, stating that now plans had beon prepared in connection with the Kulcu stream bridge, and that the work would be put in hand on receipt of formal authority. From W, Colvilio (31anakau), asking for road and drainage improvements. Ticferrod to tho inspector. From the "Under-Seeretary, statin? that tho nifltler <if the maintenance of the Iteiknrungi-AVailuinan Hoad was receiving attention. From, tho Wairoa County Council, suggesting H'curing standard plans for the erection of bridges, letter endorsed. Froin A. C. Jl'Xcil (Te Iloro),■ asking for a diversion of a wnterTuco to run machinery. Application declined. L-'roin David .hidd (Otaki), ol>.iec.ting to trees, cut by i-ounty employees, being left on his property. To ho attended to. From .7. liichardson, asking for compensation for the loss of a horse killed tlirough falling over :m i-mbiinkment. Application not entertained. A. I!. Perston waited on the council, applying for improveiyents adjacent to his properly. Decided that they bo, effected. li. L. Kllis al.-o waited on the council, asking for an agreement relative to handing over an nlinndonod road. Granted. ]t was dfided to make application for a pound for pound subsidy up to .£250 for river protective works at Wniknnan.
