THE CIVIL SERVICE BILL.

(Bγ Telegraph.—Prcis Association.! Invercargillj September 12. A largely-attended meeting of the local branch of the Post and Telegraph Officers' Association wns held this evening for tho purpose of considering the Public Service Bill. The discussion was unanimously against their inclusion in its scope. It was considered that it would bo most injurious if they were classified indiscriminately with officers of other branches of the Civil Service inasmuch as (ho conditions under which they worked were totally different from those obtaining in other Departments. Post and ToWaph officers had been under classification for 21 years, and on the whole were well satisfied with the present system. The powers given to the Commissioner wore altogether too autocratic ami wide-sweeping. Resolutions on practically, tlio snmo lines as those passed by tho Duncdin branch were adopted. A further resolution was passed to the cftcet that before condemning the working of the Post and Telegraph classification system or the internal administration thereof, and including officers in tho scope of the Jii 1, reprosentativ.es of the association should bo allowed to give evidence before a special committee of the House and that a petition should bo mado to allow of this being done before the third roauing.
