Mrs." Johnson, bofore shooting herself, -p/ayed in,the presence of two fcolou'red. maids for ineroy in her loneliness. Johasbn says the woman was suffering from a : nervous attack. . • (Kec. September -13, 11 p.m.) New York, September 13. Johnson, in giving evidcuco at the inquest after his wife's death, said Mrs. Johnson had had a nervous breakdown, due to nursing him when he was suffering from ( suicidal mania resulting from the injuries ho received in fighting Je!fries. Johnson deplnrcd that ho was still foeling tho after-effects of the fight. His wife knew this, and wns greatly depressed. Johnson asserted that he tried'to choke (himself to dsath on several occasions, and tig wife saved him. ■ A verdict was returned that Mrs. Johnson had committed suicide while temporarily insane.
