COAST DEFENCE TACTICS.
PRELIMINARY FOB TKKRITOKIALS. On Snturda, September 28, the Wellington Coast Defence troops will engage in tactical exoreisos near Lyall Bay— tho first since tho Territorials, as now organised, will hnvo engaged in since tho new defence scheme was started in real earnest. The tactical scheme, will presuppose a stato of war between Great Britain and a foreign foo, and tho proximity of the onotny's cruisers and transports to Port Nicholson. A threatened landing at Lyall Bay (by imnxhinry tvoops), will form tho basis of skirmishing exercises by the Territorial troops, while a supposed attempt by tho oupmy's cruisers to enirsr the harbour will be met by tho garrison gunners at tho forts. The oxeroiscN will commence at 2 p.m., and continue till 8 p.m., nutl the hoops taking part will include tho Wiiiimilon Garrison Arlille-ry Division, the Fii'lh Ucpimont, D Battcry, and, probabiy, tho Field Engineers, Field Ambulance, and (he Signal Company. It is expected that tho Oeneral QfRW Commnntlin; (Major-Gene-ral A. .1. (Imlley), nnd -tall - , will be ~r c. sent as spectators of the proceedings.
