Messrs. J. H. Bethune and Co. announce in our auction columns to-day that on Wednesday, September 25, at 1 ip.in., at their rooms, they will hold an important sale of a well-known library of books on New Zealand and the South Sea Island*. The sale is being held under inslruclinn from the trustee in the estate of the late Dr. S. J. Cook, of Fairlie, and the books comprise one of the most complete collections of New Zealand books over offered here. Amongst the works to be sold are: "Buller's Birds, Cook's and Eorslcr's "Voyages," "Hamilton's Maori Art," "Angas's Suvage Life, "Transactions N.Z. Institute" (vnls. 1 to 38). Thomson's, Bidivill's llochstelters, Breo's, Power's, Kennedy's, Taylor s, Terry's. Manning's. Karp's, M'lvillops, mid 'Miijoribank's "Xew Zealand," and a fine collection of early pamphlets and books in the Maori language. Catalogues will bo posted to any address,_ and Ihe books are now on view. On Wednesday, October 1G next, at 2;30 p.m., nt their rooms, they will hold a sale of building sites in Brougham and Virio Streets. Four allotments are being offered, one -left, to Pirie Street by 1321 ft.; one n corner section 48ft. 3\in. to Brougham Street and DJft. lOlin. to Pirio Strict; and two allotments each 42ft. 3in. to Bronshnm Street, by a depth of 93ft. to 91ft. The terms are liberal, and sketch plans inny be obtained from the auctioneers.
