It was rssolved to hold a monster sports meeting on the Peto.no Uecrention Ground. Several valuable trophies have been promised. \ number of sub-committees were formed ta arrange matters, and meeting will b< held weekly. Mr. .T. F. Bowles was elect, ed secretary, and Mr. B. C. Warnei treasurer. As the overdraft at present stands just under the. .£SOOO it can be wiped oun and 1J per cent interest saved to Uie ratepayers. The monthly nieetiug of the Butt. River Board was held last evening, and was attended by Messrs. Baldwin (chairman), Knight, and Peterfcin. • Op behalf of the Taita Syndicate,' Mrs. M'Kcnzic ■ wrote stating that they would l>e. prepared to assist provided that tho board continued protective works north of thoir property. The overseer explained that the work already done was of gnat benefit to the syndicate, and tho request to contribute to the exppnsn was reasonable. It was resolved that a reply be sent accordingly. . Mr. M'Ewun (Mayor of Petono), accompanied by the engineer (Mr. Cowie), waited upon the board, with a view Id bringing about an. adjustment of alleged cn«. croachmc-nt on the board's Jand V the Petono Council. The chairman explained that :the:matter was in. reference to the. western approach of. the new pipe. brioV., The overseer had reported that the Petone Council had taken moro land than was specified. • . . . . ■A lengthy batch of correspondence was' read on the matter, and also tho agreement between" the parties concerned. .It. was. further explained, that th<i. amount of land to be sold was 2 roods 19' porches, nhtLthht. tho amount taken actually, .was .1 aero 21 porci".
