IBt Qlexcoi.] Nominations close for all events in connection with tho Hawko's Bay Jockey Club's spring meeting at 8 o'clock this evening. A forfeit for the Hawke's Bay Stakes and Guineas is due at the same, time. Afterthought has been retired from the rnce tracks. The Morriwee mare seems to have lost all form, and her new owner has decided to mato her with St. Paul. Weights for the Dunedin meeting are duo <m Monday neit. The Invercargill trainer, P. T. Hogan, came up from tho south on Wednesday morning, and, aftor inspecting Jan, he. took tho Charlemagne II colt back with him the same evening. Jan is fairly forward at tho present time, and at Dunedin next month his new owner will race him in the hack events. Lady Georgia, looking big and well, arrived froni'Awapuni yesterday, and this afternoon will be placed aboard the Maunganui, bound for Sydney. The steeplechaser Sir Lethe will arrive i from the Wairarapa at mid-day, and will also bo shipped. T. Wilson, J. Gravestook, and E. Gray are passengers by the same boat. While at the Dannevirke meeting, J. M. Cameron received a telegram from the Union Company advising him that ho could obtain space on this week's boat to Sydney. As the nominations for the big fixture had already closed Cameron decided to abandon the trip. C. Emerson has prolonged his stay in Sydney until after the Epsoin and Metropolitan meeting at Randwick. He has been secured to ride tho Highden filly Brmengarda in the big mile race, and the two-year-olds Gcrhera and Adelicia in tho Breeders' Ptete and Gimcrack Stakes. Bronze and Ermengaide arc both to be given ri raco at Tattcrsall's meeting at Randwick to-morrow. The elder mare will .contest tho Cholinsford ' Stakes, a weight-for-age event, over nino fnrlongs, and will meet the cream of the Sydney horses. Ermengarde is to start in the Plying Handicap. Mr. Timi Puru; of Huntorrille, came to town yesterday on. business, and returns home to-day. Advices from Sydney state x that A. Oliver's injured foot is doing well, The Awnpuni horseman has been riding work at Randwick during the past week. E. M'Millan, of Christchurch, who has been on a tour through tho United States in search.of trotting stock,.returned to Now Zcilflid by the R.JI.S. Aorangi yesterday.. ■'Hβ'lias with him four mares and two stallions, -which were sent on to Christchurch last evening.', ... At the Waikato Hunt Club meeting on Saturday last Mr. C.' M'Laren's The Chiof—ridden by G. Hirst—easily annexed, •the Hunt Club Steeplechase from four other runners. At the • same meeting Monocle,' a member of W. King's team, scored in the Ladies' Bracelet, "Arundo" writes concerning The Rover case:—"On reading in cold print my letter in your issue of this date I realise that I may perhaps have done an injustice to the stewards in attempting to find a motive for. their omitting to declare bete 'off.' The other alternative of possiblo ignorance of their own powers did not suggest itself to me at tho time of writing. This solution may be considered improbable, seeing that they would-have the assistance of the secretary to tho conference, who if, quito incidentally, also secretary of the club. Still, it is only fair to mention it." M. Connell, who was on Blue Book when that horse dead-heated Aborigine I for tho Canlfield Cup of 1909, will have tho mount on Lady Medallist if she runs in this year's Cup. He will also ride her in the Melbourne Cup. The destruction of a worid's record j that had withstood yicious attacks for 18 years was accomplished at Cleveland (U.S.A.), on July 31 (says an exchange), when on the second day of tho Grand Circuit meeting Braden Direct paced a mile in 2min. SJsee, The previous best was 2min. feec, put up 18 years ago by a four-year-old named Ondme. Braden Direct, tho new record-holder, is owned by Mr. J. Espass, of Denver. A cablegram' to the Paris "New York Herald" says that Mr. August Beliuont (owner of tho St. Leger winner Tracery), when informed of the rumour current in England that he was about to transfer his horses now running in Franco to England, said there was no foundation for the report. He lias no intention of transferring his racing stablo across the Channel. In July, according to official figures, the money staked at, the pari-niutuel booths on the Parisian racecourses amounted to over .£1,070,000, an increase over the total for July, 1911, of nearly jEIO6,OOI>. From New Year's Day to the end of July of this year the sums received at tho pari-mutuc] totalled .£9,770,000, over a quartcT of a million more than during the snme period of WII. The proportion deducted by the Treasury amounted last year to <£800,000. FIXTURES. Sept. 13.—Ashburton County R.C. Sept. 23 and 21.—Otaki Maori K.C. Spring. Sept. 25 and 28.—Avondale J.C.
