MR. REYNOLD'S AND THE M TO Z COMMITTEE.
« (To the Editor.) Sir—lt camo as a great surprise to mo when I read this morning of Mr. Craigie, mombor for Timaru, and chairman of tho M to Z Committee last year, when I laid certain oharges against tho Resident Commissioner of Rarotonga, taking the concluding paragraph of my letter of tho sth inst. as an innuendo regarding the conduct of Hie committee., who patiently listened to the lengthy statement I had to mnko regarding the petition then before them. I regret that Mr. Craigio should have taken tho matter up as a personal reflection on the committeo in question, as such was not the intent of my words, and I am sure if lie reads them again ho will agree with me. Tho words are, and they hold no ulterior meaning:". . . An open, thorough, and searching inquiry will be held at an early dale by an unprejudiced committeo on the terms demanded last year." No Parliamentary Committeo is "open" in tho first place, and (his is qualified by the words "on the terms -demanded last, year." I have no complaints to make as to last year's committee—thev were patient and painstaking, and devoted much time at the end of a busy session to our affairs. I do not use the press as a medium of innuendo, but prefer to hit out straight, and had I had cause to complain as to the committeo in question I should long since have done so.—l did, etc., W. REVELL REYNOLDS. September 11, 1912.
