The- following wore present: CouncillorWakeham (in the<chair), Councillors Galloway, Edwards, Whiteman, Welsh, and Howell. It was announced that the next Upper Hutt Town Board elections would be held on Wednesday, September 18. Messrs. Webb, Shaw, and Pearson have notified their intention of contesting tho election. The poll for the installation of a water service in the town will bo taken tho same day, and these candidates aro in favour of the proposal to borrow £10,265 for tho installation. On the other hnnd, Messrs. Brown, Davis, and Wikie, who have also expressed their intention of standing for election, are opposed to the water supply scheme. The council has obtained a loan of -£1350 from the State Guaranteed Advances Department for the purpose of building a concrete bridgo over the Moonshine crossing of the Hutt River. The contract is in the hands of Messrs. Sykes and Shaw, and a start has been made—tho first' oonrrote pile was cast yesterday. Mr. Laing-Mcn-son, C.E., dosignei oi the bridge, has appointed Mr. W. Brown clerk of works.
