There are no nifrns of any diminution in the consumption of tobacco in the United Kingdom. Oil the contrary, tho latest statistics on the subject, which deal with the earlier half of the current year, disclose 0, etcady increase. The deliveries for home consumption during tie dx months amounted to 50,876,5981b., as against 49.000.1431b. in the corresponding portion of 1911, and 46,617,7111b. in the JanuaryJune term in 1910. Imports of unmanufactured tobacco were 52,079,5291b., as compared with 50.532,4201b.. and 48,360.6641b. respectively. The United States continues to mipply the greater portion of the smokers' raw material, and the only feature apart, from the fcteady increase in the total imports is the greater proportion of strips being used. These, in 1910. represented only 12,595,0001b., whereas two years later the total weight. for the half-year was 20.854,0001b. Imports of leaf, on the other hand, fell from 35,765.0001b. to 31,224,C001b. It is noteworthy, moreover, that, whereas tho leaf imports from the United States have declined from 31,836.0001b. to 25.479,000 lb., those from other countries have increased from 3.928,0001b. to 5,744,0001h. Notwithstanding the larger consumption, stocks in the United Kingdom continue steadily to decline, the total in bond being 190,726,0001b., as compared with 195,906,0001b., at the corresnondine date of last year, and 199,578,0001b. in 1910.

TRADE IN ALLEN STREET. Frnit— Consignments of apples are still coming forward from Motueka, a large proportion of which would have realised better rates if marketed earlier in the season. The Jfoeraki from Sydney, due to-day, is-bringing the usual consignment of lemons, passion fruit, mandarines, sweet oranges, Seville oragnes, pineapples, and lonuats. Tho Aorangi, due from San Francisco and the Cook Islands on Thursday, is bringing the first shipment of Californian apples, and thy usual supply of oranges and bananas from Itarotonga. The Navua, duo from Fiji, is bringing only a light shinment of bananas. Tomatoes and cucumbers, New Zealand-grown, aro coming in more freely. Vegetables.—Heavy shipments of cauliflowers are arriving daily, and extremely low prices arc ruling. There is an excellent demand lor spring cabbages. Table carrots bavo declined in value. Spring onions aro in good demand. Potatoes.—The market is well supplied. Good table potatoes are selling at £8 10s. to £9 10s. per ton: sed' potaetoes, £6 to £10 according' to variety. Onions—Tho market is bare of eunolics, but a fresh shinment of Oalifornian is due to arrive on Thursday by the Aorangi. Bran is in good supply, and is selling at £5 15a. to £6. Pollard meets with good innuiry at £6 15s. to £7 per ton. Maize.—Feed varieties- are dull of salo at ss. 3d. to ss. 4d. per bushel; seed maize, "Hickory King," is realising 6s. Oatmeal is in poor demand at £13 10s. to £14 per ton. Rolled oats, in 41b. bags, are unchanged at 9s. 'per dozen; oatina, 9s. 6d. Oats are dull of sale. Short feed and dun oats, 2s. 9d. to 35.; seed Algerian, 3s. 3d. to 3s. 6d. . 1 Hay has very poor, inquiry at £5 to £5 10s. for rye nEd clover. . ... . . Chaff, is {n heavy supply. Oaten aheaf is selling at £4 15s. to £5. per ton; medium Quality, £4 to £4-55., sacks in. Egga.—Fresh • eggs have declined a half; penny, and are now selling at 101 d. per dozen. Butter.—There is a fair demand for primo milled, in bulk, at Ud. to lljil. per lb.; second quality, 9d. to lOd. Margarine, in 281b. tins, Scotch manufacture, Bd. to Bid. per lb. Cheese.—The new season's make will bo available next week. Best factorv, medium size, 7d. to 7Jd. per lb.; loaf, 7jd. Mcemcal has fair inquiry at £5 15s. per ton, with rise flour at £6. Splir-pcas are quoted at 17s. per cwt. Prussian blue peas are celling at 6s. 9d. to 7s. per bushel. Partridge peas, meet with ready sal? at 4s. to 4s. 3d. ■ Whole linseed has fair demand at 17s. 6d. to 18s. per cwt. Linseed nuts are quoted at 13a. 6d. per cwt. Crushed linseed cake, 14s. per cwt.
