LAUNCH REGULATIONS.

MARINE DEPARTMENT EXPLAINS. As a result of tho recent eonfereneo of tho Dominion Fanners' Union, tho following resolution was forwarded to tho Marino Department:—"That ninny of tho launch regulations relating to private launches not plying for hire are unnecessarily restrictive, and particularly a luirdship to Sounds settlers, whoso launches hro their only means of locomotion, and that tho Government bo asked to Rinend same." The Secretary of tho Marine Department has seut the following reply to tho secretary of the conference:—"l have to state that there appears to be sonio misunderstanding ns regards private launches fchicli do not carry passengers or freight for hire, as tho law allows such launches up to six tons register to run without having to be surveyed or carrying any certificated officers. They must, however, bo provided with two life-buoys and a'life-belt for each person on board. A launch up to tho tonnage mentioned can, therefore, carry tho owner and his family and servants, and any other person, without hnving to bo surveyed, and without having to carry certificated officers, provided no charge is made for the persons carried."
