An offer has been made to the Birkenhead Borough Council by Mr. Clement L. Wra<">e, who has made his home at Birkenhead (writes our Auckland correspondent). Mr. Wragge proposes to present to tho corporation of Birkenhead from his own lnrge natural history and ethnological collection, the nucleus of n. museum similar to that already presented by him to tho town of Stafford, England. Mr. Wragge will also present a small astronomical telescope and equipment of meteorological instruments and sundry scientific books as the initial in the formation of an astronomical observatory and library The conditions of tho pift arc fixed by Mr. Wragge as follow :-(l) The corporation must provide the necessary accommodation for tho collection; (2) the establishment is to bo known as the "Wraggp Institute," and Mr. uraggo is to bo' life trustee and honorary director without liability, his son continuing in the like position after his father's death ; (3) the corporation is to-keep the institute in good order and condition, and to provide a caretaker. .Mr. Wragge suggests that a building should Iμ erected at the lower end of Arnwn Street, near wliat is known as the "Ncedle-'s Eye," and that n public garden ami reserve might be formed round the spot. Mr. ]?. Muir, of Grcylotfn, died ai; hi; residence, Main Street, Greytown, on Sunday afternoon. Deceased was S4 years ofi age. He leaves a widow and family. Woods' Great.
