After a long discussion that at times threatened to dispel all chances of a visit from the Australian footballers this fall, the delegates of the Californian Rugby Union came to an.' agreement, and enough money was guaranteed by those present to induce the union to go ahead with tho schedule (says an exchange). About 8000 dollars is necessary to bring tho visitors from Australia nnd to subsist them during their stay. Of this sum only 6500 dollars has been guaranteed to date. A special committee, consisting of Milton Farmer, L. A. Wolff, and President Humphrey, of the Olympic Club, was appointed to devise ways and means of raising by public subscription or otherwise the balance of 1500 dollars. Neither the University of Nevada nor the University of •. Southern California signified any intention of swelling the fund, and they have been left oft' the schedule! which has been arranged as follows:— October 5, Barbarians; October 6, Santa Clara Collego; October 12, Stanford University; October 16 (Wodhesday), Stanford University; October 19, Olympics; October 20, St; Mary's College; October 26, University of California; October 30, University of California; November 2, University of California; November 9, open (California-Stanford game); November 16, All-Star-Australia game. THOSE ACCOUNTS. It is joyful news to learn that tliere is now an excellent chance of fixing up the trouble between the New Zealand and New South Wales Rugby Unions over the vexed matter of tlie accounts in connection with tho visit to Australia and New Zealand of tho Stanford University (Cal., U.S.A.) 'team. Dr. Otto Bohrsmann nnd Mr. W. Hill, who are coming to Wellington with, the N.S.W. team (bound for America) next week, have been given full power to adjust" tho matter,' and similar power lihs been given to Messrs. N. Galbraith, E. Wylie, and M. J. Crombie. As--it is likely that both parties will be actuated by a spirit- of generous conciliation, it is pretty well certain that tie unfortunnte breach will be healed in the very immediate future. Rugby cannot afford tho luxury of a serious difference with, a neighbouring State as matters are at present, so both parties will como together covered with patches and darning needles next week.

THE OTAGO MEN'S CONDUCT. (By Telegraph.—Press Aesociatl'on.} Invercargill, September C. 'At 1 a meeting of-the Southland Rugby. A motion was carried to the «ftect that the Southland Union was satisfied that the Invercargfill players were exonerated from participating in the fracas. Says the Rugby Union official note:— The- annual 'match between Canterbury and Wellington is always .looked forward to as likely to produce something above the average /in ' Eugby representative matches, and this afternoon's game promises to be well up to the average in this respect. Tho teams representing the two unions appear to be evenly matched, both possessing excellent backs and fast forwards, which should make for open, interesting play. Prior to the big game two important matches the annual Civil Service tournament will be played.
