(Trom Ocx KD«clal Correspondent.)' ■■ '■ I Masterton, September 6.-. ; At a well-attended meeting.of citizens this afternoon, it was decided that a ehih. drenV plain and fancy dress ball be organised, with a view to raising f.unds.for the furnishing of the new nurses' home. The teachers attending the agricultural spring school in Masterton.' gave a. "social" in tho Assembly Hall of the District High School last night. There was a large gathering. • ' A hockey match was played yesterday between beams representing Masterton and Eketahuna. The l game ended iri. a draw, each side scoring two goals. Mr. H; H.: Seed/assistant-commissioner 'of'the St. John Ambulance-Brigade,,paid-a visit of inspection to Masterton. yesterday. There was a strong muster of members of the local division, under, charge of Superintendent Gillespie, and a.stood exhibition of ambulance work was Riven. Mr. P. Brown, Government poultry expert) was in Masterton to-day, and visited several of the local poultry yards. A meeting is to be , held in tho Borough Chambers on Monday next, for the purpose of discussing the question of closer settlement in the Masterton electorate. ■ Arrangements have been completed for the reception of his Excellency the Governor on the occasion of his opening the local 1 branch of the Overseas Club next week. Lord Islington is to be entertained at a- luncheon at which leading citizens are to be invited to be present.
