UNIVERSITY REFORM
Sir,—ln reference to tho proposed change in the system of university affairs, there is one important point which should be given careful attention by the University Senate Committee, i.e., the holding of tho matriculation examination six-inonth-ly instead of yeariy, as at present. It is held six-monthly in Australia. Why should New Zealand kg behind? It is .a sorious matter that our .youth should be kept behind other colonics. If a fail to pass by a few marks in one subject, such as history, is made by a candidate, this year, say, he has to wait twelve months before ho is allowed to sit again. The system ought to be altered immediately to tako effect this coming year. I also think that it 's very unjust to withhold tho candidate's marks obtained at each examination from him. I trust that these matters will bo given tho very earnest attention which they deserve-I am, etc., ADVAKCE NEW ZEALAND.
